Finding Calm in the midst of the storms
Get Support for Anxiety
It's important to get support when you are feeling anxious. Sometimes that can just be chatting over things with a friend. But sometimes you may feel you need more support. There are organisations that can help, and different types of therapies that will help you put some tools into practice to manage your anxiety, so that it doesn't rob you of your daily activities.
If you need urgent help always call 999 if its an emergency. But otherwise there are talking services such as the Samaritans. Then there are mindfulness apps to help you stay calm. There are relaxing videos on Youtube, and also relaxing sounds you can listen to.
But if you feel you are getting overwhelmed by anxiety on a regular basis, you may wish to speak to your GP, who can sign post you to some mental health services.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a practical Activity that you would undertake to help you remain calm.
It consists of being aware of yourself and your surroundings, and actively focussing on being
present and conscious of yourself, your breathing, where you are sitting, your body, and
focussing on each aspect of your surroundings so that you become grounded and centered
on where you are.
It takes you out of your racing thoughts and helps you focus on something else.
Mindfulness activities together with CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) goes someway to
helping ease anxiety. Obviously before you begin, you need to make sure where you are is safe
and you won't be disturbed. There are Apps available to assist with Mindfulness activities. These range from
giving you mindful activities to do, sounds to listen to, and videos to watch, as well as speaking
to redirect and soothe your thoughts.
You will find some useful support tools in our Tools section, including our App 'Unplugged Mind'.
This app finds all the mindfulness videos and sound for you, all you need to do is choose
your topic, and your selection will be in once location for you to access in our app.
